UPI Transaction Milestone: 22.35 Billion in April 2026
India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) continues to demonstrate remarkable growth, recording 22.35 billion transactions in April 20261. This milestone underscores UPI’s position as the backbone of India’s retail payments ecosystem, with the system now handling over 600 million transactions daily2. The payment infrastructure has become a symbol of India’s technological prowess, with the Prime Minister highlighting India’s low-cost, open digital infrastructure for 1.4 billion people at the AI Action Summit3.
ONDC Reaches 12 Million Orders in July
The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) achieved a significant milestone by processing 12 million orders in July4. Of these, 4.4 million came from the mobility sector, while 7.6 million were from non-mobility domains including food, groceries, and fashion. The food and beverages sector led with 1.7 million transactions, while groceries and fashion contributed 1.4 million and 0.6 million respectively4. An independent study by ONDC network participants revealed the platform has captured an 18% market share in food and beverages within Bengaluru and a 3% national share4.
India Post Joins ONDC as Logistics Partner
In a landmark development for India’s digital commerce ecosystem, the Department of Posts successfully delivered its first ONDC order as a Logistics Service Provider5. Leveraging its extensive nationwide postal network, India Post will now support seamless and cost-effective logistics for e-commerce transactions on the ONDC platform. This milestone underscores India Post’s expanding role in the digital economy and its transition into a technology-enabled logistics partner5.
FICCI & ONDC Sign MoU for Travel, Tourism & Hospitality
The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and ONDC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance digital experiences within the travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors6. This collaboration aims to integrate ONDC’s open network protocols with FICCI’s extensive industry connections, potentially transforming how travel services are delivered and consumed across India.
Cyber Crime Crackdown: ₹1.59 Crore Refunded to Digital Arrest Victims
The Cyberabad Police Commissionerate conducted a major crackdown on “Digital Arrest” scams between May 6-14, 20267. The operation resulted in 10 arrests and the recovery of ₹1.59 Crore refunded to victims across 64 cases7. The crackdown targeted sophisticated fraud networks that used intimidation tactics to trick victims into transferring funds, highlighting the growing challenge of digital fraud in India’s expanding digital economy.
India-Morocco DPI Cooperation
India and Morocco are strengthening cooperation through Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), with a focus on digital identity and education8. This partnership represents India’s growing role in exporting its DPI expertise globally, demonstrating how homegrown digital infrastructure can serve as a model for other developing nations seeking to leapfrog traditional digital transformation pathways.
