As the Digital India programme prepares to mark its 11th anniversary on July 1, MeitY highlighted the programme’s evolution from a digital-access mission to a frontier-technology initiative anchored in AI and semiconductors. The Press Information Bureau noted that India has built one of the world’s largest DPI ecosystems — spanning Aadhaar, UPI, DigiLocker, and GeM — now exported to multiple countries. MeitY plans a “Bharat DPI Centre” to showcase India Stack and train Global South governments, targeting DPI adoption in 60+ countries within five years. Separately, on Statistics Day 2026 (June 29), UN Resident Coordinator praised India’s DPI ecosystem as offering “huge opportunities” for data-driven governance, while PM’s Principal Secretary Saurabh Garg highlighted how India’s administrative data is becoming a strategic national asset powered by AI and digital infrastructure.

The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has expanded to over 20 crore buyers and 5 lakh sellers by June 2026, according to a PIB press release. The government-backed network, designed to break e-commerce monopolies by enabling interoperable buyer-seller discovery across platforms, continues to scale rapidly in sectors including food delivery, grocery, fashion, and financial services. The network’s growth underscores the viability of open, protocol-based commerce as an alternative to walled-garden marketplace models.
