DPI Brief — July 01, 2026
India’s Digital Public Infrastructure ecosystem had a landmark day. As Digital India completes 11 years on July 1, UPI went live in Greece, PM Modi signed a UPI MoU with Seychelles, and the nation’s digital governance stack crossed new thresholds. Here are the five most significant updates.
UPI Goes Live in Greece, International Footprint Reaches 10 Countries
[L2: Payments] India’s Unified Payments Interface was formally launched in Greece on June 30 through a partnership between Eurobank and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL). Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal witnessed a live demonstration of real-time cross-border UPI payments at Eurobank headquarters in Athens. The service enables Indian travellers and businesses to make instant digital payments in Greece, with Eurobank positioning itself as a gateway connecting India and Europe. Greece becomes the tenth country to accept UPI, joining Singapore, the UAE, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Bhutan, Qatar, Sri Lanka, and Cambodia. The Eurobank collaboration also strengthens the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) by enabling seamless digital payment connectivity.

India-Seychelles Sign UPI MoU, DPI Diplomacy Expands
[L2: Payments · L5: Sectoral] During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Seychelles (June 27–29), NPCI and the Central Bank of Seychelles signed an MoU to introduce UPI in the island nation. The system is expected to become operational by end of 2026, making Seychelles the eleventh country to adopt India’s digital payment system. The agreement is part of a broader package of 19 bilateral instruments covering digital transformation, health, education, and maritime security. India also pledged to support Seychelles in developing Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and announced a ₹1,250 crore Line of Credit for priority development projects. India’s growing DPI diplomacy — UPI in 10+ countries, Aadhaar-model identity systems offered to partner nations — is becoming a pillar of its foreign policy.

Digital India Turns 11: UPI at 24,162 Crore Transactions, DigiLocker at 850 Crore Documents
[Cross-layer] July 1 marks the 11th anniversary of the Digital India programme. The milestone comes with striking numbers that underscore the depth of India’s DPI stack:
- UPI processed over 24,162 crore transactions worth ₹314 lakh crore in FY 2025-26 — up from just 2 crore transactions in FY 2016-17. UPI now accounts for approximately 49% of global real-time payment volumes, averaging 66 crore transactions daily.
- DigiLocker hosts more than 850 crore documents as of March 2026, facilitating paperless document storage and verification across education, governance, and financial services.
- Semiconductor investments of ₹1.64 lakh crore have been approved, and over 45,000 GPUs have been deployed for AI research under the India AI Mission.
- AgriStack has registered 10 crore farmers, making it one of the world’s largest digital farmer registries, supporting data-driven agricultural governance.
The JAM trinity — Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, and Mobile — continues to be the foundational layer enabling this scale.

Aadhaar e-KYC Reaches Branch Post Offices, Aadhaar App Crosses 31 Million Downloads
[L1: Identity · L3: Documents] The Department of Posts introduced Aadhaar-based e-KYC at Branch Post Offices, enabling eligible Post Office Savings Account, Recurring Deposit, and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana customers to make paperless deposits up to ₹50,000 and savings account withdrawals up to ₹20,000. This extends Aadhaar authentication infrastructure into rural banking touchpoints that serve millions of unbanked and underbanked citizens. Separately, UIDAI’s new Aadhaar App — which supports offline verification, selective data sharing, and family profiles — has crossed 31 million downloads since its launch on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
